Pregnancy - Is it safe to eat?

(1) Eat durian
- Chinese traditional - too heaty and advise to avoid
- Modern science - no studies, could eat moderation (Max 2 seeds)

(2) Hacker Center
- Stick to Hot, cooked foods (Char Koay Teow, no ham)
- Avoid raw ingredients (Fruits, vege)
- Avoid sauces or condiment left out all day
- Wary of iced drinks (Ice, cane crushing machine may be source of infections)

(3) Mangoes
- Very nutritious
- Rich fibre, prevent constipation, all vital nutrients for pregnancy

(4) Papaya
- Unripe/half ripe papaya may trigger uterine contractions
- A well ripe papaya is considered safe to eat

(5) Raw/ half cook Food (Avoid)
- YuSheng, Meat, fish, shellfish
- Ex: Sushi, sashimi, half boiled eggs, oysters, blanched kerang (ham)
- Raw or undercooked eggs

(6) Fish
- Avoid Shark, swordfish and marlin, it contain unsafe levels of mercury). Tuna contain some mercury too.
- Avoid shellfish (seeham), it can cause food poisoning.
- Should eat some oily fish (2 portions a week)
=> Salmon, trout, mackerel, herring, sardines, pilchards, kipper, eel, whitebait, fresh tuna, anchovies


(7) Drinks
- Cut down caffeine (Max per day, 2 x coffee, 2 x tea or 5 cans of cola)
- Switch to decaffeinated drinks
- Avoid alcohol

(8) Eggs
- Avoid softboiled/raw eggs because may contain Salmonella
- Avoid sorbets, ice-creams, meringues, mousses, mayonnaise or desserts like tiramisu cause often contain raw eggs.
- Mayonnaise check made from pasteurised eggs.
- Fry eggs on both sides
- Boil a medium sized egg for at least seven minutes.
